Dunsink – Public Meeting Update

The scope of our group is on Neighbourhood Watch and we try where possible to stay within that lane.

The proposed development at Dunsink is on our doorstep and is likely to have an impact in many ways on our neighbourhood. People need to make up their own minds but we want to share the information that is available.

Sharing this useful update from John Dillon of Deerpark area residents association on the public meeting re Dunsink last night.

Update from Dunsink meeting last night.

The information provided at the meeting painted an alarming picture of what Fingal County Council seem to be planning to facilitate the construction of a site containing 16,500 dwellings.

This is aimed at addressing a housing need within the Fingal area. However, the density of such a development in a single zone will add a population of the size of Longford to this area and the broader locality.

The density per hectare will be the highest ever seen in the state.

Tony Reddy (former RIAI President) presented at the meeting and based on his analysis “The proposed residential density 75-225 is too high. It should be 40-80 dph in the residential neighbourhoods and 80-150 dph within 500 metres of rail”.

The new infrastructure proposed is considered to be wholly inadequate for this scale of development. Existing infrastructure will be overwhelmed.

The existing dump will be turned into parkland. Concerns were raised that this represents a health hazard and is continuing to emit methane gas into the atmosphere. There is a call for all Environmental studies to be published.

Fingal councillors will be taking a vote 5 days from now on the 14th of October to approve this proposal.

We are informing residents of this important vote.

We encourage you to contact all your local councillors and TD’s and share your own views.

Based on feedback from the meeting last night, this is a proposal that requires much more detailed assessment and a significant reappraisal in terms of Density, Supporting Infrastructure and Environmental Impact Evaluation.

Please do make your views known to your elected public representatives.
